The future is now - How TCS is harnessing the power of emerging technologies to deliver digital transformation and Business 4.0

Most clients are aware of the value of emerging technologies. Some, however, find it hard to visualise a pathway to adoption at scale. At TCS, knowing how to derive value for clients from the multitude of emerging technologies is a core strength — one that was on show for visitors to this year’s TCS Summit Asia Pacific.

Within the showcase, TCS emerging tech teams detailed practical case studies and illustrated the opportunities our Business 4.0 framework provides to harness the power of tech like blockchain, machine learning and the Cloud.

One of the approaches defined in detail during TCS Summit was the Machine First philosophy. Business 4.0 details how an automation strategy is a founding pillar to drive organisations towards agility and exponential growth. The Machine First philosophy gives machines first right of refusal, thereby elevating the role of people from ‘doer of work’ to ‘trainer of technology, provider of inspiration and guardian of ethics’.

Here we explore some of the technologies— along with automation— allowing organisations to meet on-demand customer expectations, significantly compress innovation project life cycles and deliver differentiated value.

Competing on Customer Experience

In an experience first economy, businesses win by designing experiences that allow customers to make better, more informed purchasing decisions. TCS Conversa - An AI-assisted chatbot for the financial sector is re-imagining the customer experience with chatbots.

The future of banking means robots being able to coordinate your bank accounts. The TCS Conversa chatbot is a revolutionary AI-assisted banking product that seeks to integrate financial services into one handy interface for customers and employees alike.

By creating a single view of your bank accounts, regardless of financial institution, TCS Conversa provides a chatbot platform that can be leveraged by emerging technology like personal devices, virtual assistants and yes, even robotics.

Visitors to the Conversa display were able to interact and engage with a Conversa-enabled Google Home seeing for themselves how handy the financial chatbot can be for users.

Going Agile in a Machine World with Jile & Ignio, TCS’ proprietary Agile for Enterprise and Automation platforms

During the summit, TCS Group COO & ED, N.G. Subramaniam spoke about our global mission to be 100% enterprise agile by 2020 — no mean feat for a global organisation of over 400,000 employees.

The benefits of Agile for business efficiency and employee engagement are well understood, however creating a roadmap to harness its power at extreme scale is sometimes hard for clients to imagine. That is the power of Jile — TCS’ Enterprise Agile platform. Benefits of the platform include on demand delivery, frictionless integration with legacy systems, and its framework agnostic nature for use with popular frameworks like LeSS, SAFe and Nexus.

What is art-led and what is science-led? Envision a typical working day, then challenge yourself, ‘What did I do today that could be automated?’

In conjunction with an agile workforce and new era leadership skills, adaptive core technologies are enabling operational excellence and capability links to be delivered in novel ways. Ignio, an artificial intelligence platform helps streamline business operations by predicting and identifying tasks that can be automated - cutting operational costs and maximising efficiency. It makes IT operations both simple and powerful and executes many routine tasks on its own. Complete automation workflows can be built without the need for static programming or scripting. As a result, IT operations staff can devote more time to innovation and transformation.

Is blockchain a solution in search of a problem? Deriving value from an intriguing technology

Blockchain featured large at this year’s Summit, with multiple Group CIOs talking about their interest in the technology but remaining cautious of its current hype. And when asked what what emerging technology most excites him, Apple Co Founder and icon Steve Wozniak answered not autonomous vehicles but Blockchain.

“Blockchain is the most intriguing thing these days because it's hard to see where it will go. There is talk of retail, housing, jewellery and voting applications but you need developers and users to make use of the technology so that you can begin to understand the habits of how the technology is used” said Steve Wozniak.

Far from a solution without a problem, the blockchain showcase illustrated how products under development at TCS were creating operational trust and efficiency at scale.

As attendees watched, our blockchain experts talked through our approach, combining a unique blend of behavioural science, machine first delivery model, and business value model to help clients extract the value from blockchain.

Current applications focus on decentralising ecosystems, enabling the sharing of risk and incentives across the ecosystem. This means that any industry where there is a default to a lack of consumer trust, involves multiple parties or one where there is no central figure of authority, can operate with security.

Far from a solution without a problem, the blockchain showcase illustrated how products under development at TCS were creating operational trust and efficiency at scale. And finally, organisations that move towards an automation strategy will be best placed to adapt to the future.

IoT services were on display for clients in the process of setting up such a strategy. Humans are critical. Keeping knowledge, skill and critical thinking free from menial tasks is the aim of automation product development at TCS.

IoT is empowering clients across the globe to more effectively manage their assets. In practice, TCS’ IoT solutions are helping clients to harness more sensors, more data and more power to change the way they work and the value they provide to end users.
